Welcome to the Warhammer Conference forum!

Hi everyone and welcome to the Warhammer Conference forum!
This forum has been created to give us a space where we can chat about all things related to academia and Warhammer -- thinking about the ways that Warhammer and academia coincide, and how we can use Warhammer to delve deeper into various subject areas; or even use it as a vehicle to make our subject(s) more accessible to outsiders.
Having all of these discussions on WhatsApp just doesn't work with a big group, so I hope you feel able to make the most of this space and help build out community over time.
As ever, if you have any feedback at all, please do share it. I am still trying to figure out all of the admin settings for our forum software (phpBB), so please do bear with me if there are any gremlins in the system.
All the best,
Mike

I find it's a brilliant initiative! Now it's up to us to make this a lively space.

Yes indeed

. I'm just sorry it's taken me so long to get to setting it up. I'm hoping we can use it as a place to build some academic collaborations.

Just one bit of feedback, or perhaps a question - I'm not too familiar with the specific backend of the phpBB systems but everything here looks pleasantly familiar to me from the old days of forum-going. Is there the potential to have YouTube embedding in a post, or is that too risky of a proposition at the moment? I was thinking it would be good to have individual topics for everyone's papers this coming conference, and being able to embed the video would be helpful. It's of course not nearly a necessary feature but it would be nice.

I'll have a look into it

Also... I don't know if you all realise, but the website does include the option to leave comments. So if, for example, you liked someone's talk, you could post on it's page. No one has tried it yet, so I do actually need a guinea pig to check it works
But yeah, totally love your idea about having chat discussions linked to everyone's talk. That could be really cool way to engage in conversations both during and after the conference!

Interesting, I didn't notice the comment section. I just tried to leave a comment (just a fairly basic "What a great presentation!" on Margaret Naylor's Grimdark Xenofemininity, which was, in fact, great) and it gave me this in return:
If the feature remains unused it might be best to just link things back to the forum for further discussion?
Also, another small suggestion - a link somewhere along the top bar that will take us back to the main page for the Conference itself would be nice.
EDIT: Apologies, it's been a long time since I've had to use an image-hosting service! Basically, it gave me an error saying Forbidden: you do not have permission to access this document.

Ok, so I've just figured out how to add extensions to the forum, and have found us something for embedding media. You should now see a button that looks like a monitor that lets you use the tags
Simply insert the URL for your YouTube video of choice and the forum should do its magic. Here's me talking to John Blanche (RIP) from our first conference -->

Ok, I'll have a look into this. It might be just that I decide to switch this off, and people can chat about the videos here...
Of course, it's also a good idea to actually post comments on the videos themselves, as we do need the engagement
