Hello, I'm Joachim

Hello, my name is Joachim. I first came to Warhammer as a child, through the Lord of The Rings range of miniatures. After the typical broke-student-hiatus, I came back to the hobby five years ago, mainly 40K this time. This more or less coincided with my going back to school. I'm now an undergraduate student, studying public management.
I first studied philosophy and political science, which to this day are my main fields of interest. One of the reasons I love Warhammer (especially 40K) so much is how detailed and oddly accurate the descriptions of institutions and people can be. The over-the-topness and the satire of it all sort of acts like a convex mirror. The reflection is distorted, it's all very silly, and that is precisely what allows us to learn something about the real world.
I also love painting the miniatures, and am beginning to learn how to play. I'm particullarly keen on the grimdark style of painting. I find learning new techniques and applying them not only relaxing, but highly rewarding. Painting miniatures has also helped me in work life and academia, I think it has contributed to making me less shy to experiment. I'm also more interested in the narrative aspect of wargaming, and I'd be very interested in trying Necromunda some day.
I was absolutely thrilled when Warhammer Conference was first launched, and have had the pleasure of giving two talks:
The not-quite-so-dark future: colour coding in Warhammer 40K
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q15-1jbAf5M
Avatars of Grimdark: the Imperium of Man and the T’au Empire

I met lovely people in Heidelberg, immensely enjoyed the talks and following discussions. The community is just great. I look greatly look forward to this year's conference in Frankfurt!
