Abstract
My paper is to be an examination of the juxtaposition of sex and violence in the setting of the 41st millenium. 40k has expanded across the decades to become a fully realized fictional vision, with an intellectual depth that is simply not found in almost any other fictional game worlds. Where as almost every facet of life and culture, both xenos and human, has been examined in some degree, the topic of sex seems to have been dealt with quite inconsistently. Is this on purpose? Is it an attempt to keep the genre ‘pure’ for the young hobbyists GW hopes to attract? Or is it something deeper and more intrinsic to the setting? The purity of the setting in regards to sex and young minds surely pales in comparison to the level of its violence in regards to those same tender minds. So why is sex and sexual conduct treated so aberrantly in the grimdark future? When one looks at the factions/races of the galaxy, the vast majority of them mate and procreate in ways and processes foreign to our own. What is the underlying message or reasoning behind this?
