Heads up, scummers, we are in for some mayhem! Continuing research in SEL skills development and Peer relations in middle schoolers, this talk will present findings utilizing a “deeper dive” into longer gaming experiences through the use of the the “Necromunda” game system. Through the use of extended campaigns, role-reversal, and collabortive play, this study will present findings of increased drive, dialogic questioning, and empathy-building in students to help promote Social Emotional Learning in the classroom or at the gaming table. These juves have what it takes!

Ben Gould is an Instructional Mentor Teacher and middle school Science and Math teacher with a background in Archaeology and Anthropology. He has been teaching in Sacramento, California, for the past 12 years and loves incorporating gamification and game-based learning in his core and elective classes. Last year, Ben presented his findings on Social Emotional Learning in Warhammer through the use of the Warhammer Alliance program in conjunction with specific elective and summer camp courses that he designed. He is also an avid Warhammer painter and Dungeons and Dragons player and hobbies often on his lunch breaks.
