Catachans and Tyranids are two of Warhammer 40K’s most identifiable factions. But what is it like to write them?

Using the example of her debut novel, Deathworlder, Black Library author Victoria Hayward shares her creative process to writing these iconic factions, her approach to writing Warhammer 40K, character development, world-building and writing the first full novel set during the Tyranid consumption phase.

About Victoria

Victoria Hayward is an author whose publication track record encompasses SFF novels, short stories, scripts, and articles. She was a member of the writing team for the award-winning Warhammer 40,000: Darktide video game. She has an MA (Distinction) in History from the University of Nottingham and was an invited contributor to the 2021 Anthem Press anthology ‘Travel Writing in an Age of Global Quarantine.’ She was a guest lecturer on Lancaster University’s Creative Writing MA, and is the recipient of a PhD Fellowship at Lancaster University. Victoria has been supported by the Arts Council to develop her creative practice for both her written, and visual arts work.
