The detection of xenos presence before the emergence of visible threats remains one of the major challenges of planetary biosecurity. Orkoid spore contamination, Genestealer infiltration, and Tyranid early stage invasion are just a few examples in which early detection of xenobiological hazards may enable timely intervention and protective measures, potentially avoiding the considerable economic and administrative costs associated with Exterminatus.

One possible solution is a well-known Old-Earth approach of molecular ecology – environmental DNA (eDNA). eDNA is genetic material, which is released by organisms into the environment and can be detected without direct observation of the organism itself. This approach helps to investigate the diversity within a specific habitat or to detect invasive or rare species through traces of genetic material present in soil, water, and air.

This treatise explores the basic principles beyond eDNA monitoring, and how it could be adapted for the identification of xenos contamination on Imperial worlds. Potential applications include the detection of Orkoid spores in Agri-Worlds, early identification of Genestealer infiltration through wastewater surveillance in Civilised World, or post-incursion monitoring of residual Tyranid biomatter following hive fleet activity.

Particular attention is given to the possibility of detecting CENSORED -associated contamination, especially CENSORED -related biohazards. The biological nature of many CENSORED -associated diseases spread by CENSORED worshippers suggests that eDNA technology may provide an effective early warning system.

However, CENSORED remains uncertain, raising important questions regarding the applicability of conventional molecular approaches to warp-altered or partially non-biological infectious agents. In addition to theoretical considerations, the presentation will include preliminary unpublished results from field and laboratory investigations conducted by the authors. Their implications for quarantine protocols and planetary biosecurity will be discussed.
